The best automatic vacuum cleaner Robot Hoover

Certain models also automatically empty the onboard dustbin and deposit it in an additional bin at the bottom. This reduces the amount fine dust that gets released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobots (including the top model) they utilize intelligent mapping to design precise floorplans that avoid obstacles like furniture legs. They also feature a feature called carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it spots a lot of dirt on the carpet, allowing it clean quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests of floors with no carpet They are also adept at cleaning dog hair. They do have some flaws however, which prevent them from being our top option. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's also prone to become stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very efficiently during our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a good deal for those whose office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save money. Plus, it's very quiet and can work when you're at work or going to school. The only thing it lacks that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto-emptying dock, however. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying bin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors to keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time and provide more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.

It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a room with carpet which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach beneath furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete the task of cleaning a whole home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It did a great cleaning job on various floors and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was excellent, and it avoided fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums it, something hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This mop and vacuum combination has a sleek, circular design that looks much like a Roomba model than the bulky units of the competition. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, but it's not as expensive as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally capable and look better. This is a two-in-one vacuum that is very efficient, but it's going to cost you more and produce more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features to help you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to create floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the house based on how dirty these areas are.

For larger homes, it's worth opting for a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home by using the app or via voice commands. A stairway mode is useful if you have a number of furniture. For families that are busy, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be very beneficial.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you might expect from its price tag. It vacuums well and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion, which is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app also grants access to a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It can also reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It has an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean an area.

It is more appealing in its design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, however it is more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuum with mop vacuums we've test. It also has an app that's not as intuitive, and a smaller base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
