Optimal Fresh Zone keeps meats and fish fresher for as long as twice as long as in conventional refrigerators, without freezing them. This feature is a game changer for anyone who loves cooking but doesn't like the hassle of defrosting frozen fish or meat.
All Round Cooling uses an aluminum cooling plate at the back of the fridge. It is there to keep the cold air and prevent it from getting lost when you open the door of the fridge. It also reduces your need for power defrosting saving you time and money.
The ice dispenser found on Samsung fridges is one of the best we've ever tested. The original Twist Ice Maker dispensing large cubes is operated with one simple twist. It can be kept below the fridge when not in use. This gives you more shelf space and makes it easier to find your preferred snacks and drinks.
With Reversible Doors You can choose the direction in which your freezer or fridge opens. You can easily fit your fridge into your kitchen layout while keeping it clean and tidy.
Samsung's Family Hub is the central control of your SmartThings-connected home. It uses a large touchscreen that is mounted on your refrigerator. It will show you a live feed of your smart doorbell. It also allows you to order groceries through an automated inventory, or suggest recipes based on what's available in stock.
Samsung refrigerators come with flexible drawers on the bottom that are an efficient storage solution. They allow you to store taller items, such as pizza trays, and cans of drinks. They can be flipped down when not in use, and they can be folded flat to take up less space. This is a fantastic feature for those who love to cook and bake and have a limited storage space in their refrigerators.
FlexZone
The Samsung FlexZone side by side fridge freezer has a unique 3-zone system, which allows you to add an additional freezer drawer or refrigerator compartment. This flexibility lets you personalize the fridge freezer to suit your storage requirements and needs. The FlexZone module allows you to upgrade your fridge to a larger or smaller size by adding an extra FlexZone.

new samsung fridge. The fridge comes with an external water and ice dispenser to make it even more convenient.
It's a nice-looking fridge that has the bottom-right FlexZone compartment that can be converted from freezer to refrigerator. This provides extra space to store items in the freezer, such as ice cream bags of frozen vegetables and even fish or meat. It did well in our tests too, but the lack of a voice control or SmartThings integration on the 21.5-inch touchscreen was an unrealized opportunity.
The remainder of the fridge has plenty of room to store food, including two crisper trays and the middle FlexZone drawer, which can be customised. This drawer lets you pick between five different settings, based on the needs of your fridge freezer compartment. This includes a freeze setting that matches the freezer settings as well as an option for a soft freeze setting on wine or deli tray, a meat and fish setting, and a beverage setting for snacks, drinks and frequently accessed items.
This Samsung FlexZone side by side refrigerator is ideal for families who want to have a fridge and freezer in one. It's not as spacious than high-end French door models, however it offers a lot of useful features and is an excellent option for those with little space in their kitchens.
Samsung Fridge Freezers are very energy efficient due to their digital inverter technology. This technology regulates temperature in the fridge to ensure it doesn't change too frequently and helps keep food fresher for longer. Its energy efficiency has earned the Energy STAR Certification.
SmartThings
SmartThings isn't quite the same platform that Alexa and Google Assistant are but it does come with many smart devices that you can connect to.
samsung electronics refrigerators's TVs, phones tablets and fridges all include SmartThings. It could be enough for some particularly if they own several Samsung products.
The SmartThings application is very polished and well rounded It comes with a 'if you do x, then y' automation feature that performs surprisingly well. It is possible to set up things like an alarm that goes off when sensors detect a flood, or turn on the light when your phone determines you're at home. It can also control your fridge by connecting it to a smart socket however, we've had mixed results with this.
SmartThings requires a hub, which is not inexpensive. Samsung makes a few different ones - including the SmartThings Station, which you can connect to your router and uses as a nightlight. There's a cheaper SmartThings hub dongle that supports Z-Wave, Zigbee and Thread.
Once you've connected your smart refrigerator to your smartphone and hub, it's very easy to use. SmartThings lets you manage your refrigerator from anywhere. Notifications are sent to your phone when the refrigerator is closed or opened. You can create schedules, alter the temperature and even set reminders.
SmartThings was an early participant in the Home Connectivity Alliance. This alliance is working on making major home appliances made by different manufacturers compatible. That could mean you'll be able to control your Samsung washer and dryer, Electrolux oven and LG television from the same app in the near future.
SmartThings is not as popular as Alexa or Google Assistant but it does have some big names on its list, like Arlo Nest, Belkin, and Lifx. It's compatible with the Matter protocol, which allows accessories to be linked regardless of the brand. The most effective option for people is to pair Alexa and Google Assistant.
Family Hub
This fridge freezer is among the most modern that you can buy. It comes with a 21-inch touchscreen built into the door, and comes with a variety of smart features. Bixby, Samsung's voice-activated assistant, allows you to access entertainment apps, create notes for family (think of it as a digital version of the notepad that is stuck to the refrigerator), check weather reports and much more.
The touchscreen allows you to manage food and recipes. You can add ingredients from an app and check out the contents of your fridge with internal cameras. You can create an inventory of groceries while on the go and monitor food items to check the expiration date. You can even use an app for recipes that will provide instructions as you cook.
This is the second generation of Family Hub fridges and Samsung says it's spent a year adjusting them to the needs of customer feedback. You can now create different profiles for every member of your family to allow them to customize the information and apps they have access to. It's still not quite as effective as having Alexa integration built into your refrigerator however it's a step up on the previous model.
Apart from its ability to manage grocery and entertainment, Family Hub also acts as a controller for Samsung's SmartThings platform. It can be used to control Matter-compatible devices, such as lights and plugs as well as locks.
Samsung's fridge has been around for a few years now and, even though it provides a decent amount of features, the touchscreens don't really stand out as a must-have feature for most people. They're more of a fun, semi-frivolous addition than anything else.

It could change when more software updates are made available, but for now these models are best suited to those who want the most complete connected fridge that is possible. You can save money by buying a model without the Family Hub if you're not one of those people. If you have a lot of smart home devices that you need to control with one screen, or you love the idea of having a fridge with a giant touchscreen, it could be worth the investment.
