Manchester United fans are the loudest in the Premier League despite a
turbulent start to the season under Louis van Gaal.
Reporters were armed with the ‘Sound Meter' smartphone app to measure noise taken from kick-off to the 60-second mark, when fans are expected to rally their team into action. Each Premier League side's crowd noise was captured at a home and away match to create a combined total, with the Old Trafford fans leading the way in belting out the chants.
At the wrong end of the scale are Aston Villa. Paul Lambert's side played in front of their lowest home attendance since December 1999 with only 25,311 turning up to witness the 1-1 draw with Southampton on Monday night.

This follows Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho saying he felt his side had been 'playing in an empty stadium' earlier this month during a narrow 2-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers.
Liverpool's continued slump in form could be behind their low combined total but at joint bottom are West Ham with the Hammers fans evidently hard to please at sixth in the league.
